News 2004 ASAE 1/4 Scale Tractor Competition This year marked the seventh annual ASAE 1/4 Scale Tractor Student Design Competition held at the Quad City Downs in East Moline, Illinois. This competition is designed as a fun way to provide hands-on engineering experience to students around the world. The 2004 competition included teams from across the United States and Canada. In past years, teams have traveled from as far as the University of Malaysia to take part. Participating teams take on the challenge of designing and building a complete machine from the frame to drivetrain and other vehicle parts. All teams receive the same specified stock engine that cannot not be modified in any way. At the competition, teams are evaluated through a written design report, a team presentation, design judging, and a performance competition. Diedrichs employee and ASAE member Jill Huenink served as part of the 2004 judging committee and participated on the University of Wisconsin-Madison team during her undergraduate career. ASAE member Ginger L'Heureux also represented Diedrichs at this year's competition. During college, L'Heureux was active on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln team.
